Start your flight in summer season, early in the morning. I recommend to set the weather to "few clouds" and to fly around 5000 ft.
- As we are leaving Fukuoka towards the east we take a last look at this large coastal town.
- On your way to the east coast, enjoy the landscape where only view people live. This is how Japan looks if you leave Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and the other large megacities. A quiet green place. Unfortunately, more and more people are leaving these rural places, leaving the old people behind.
- Flying over Yufuin, the current residence of my japanese family in law. A well known local tourist attraction for everybody who wants to enjoy fresh air and typical knick-knack tourist tra... shops.
- As we progress we are arriving to the town of Oita. A beautiful medium sized coastal town with a great view to the pacific ocean. This brown/black spot at the coastline of Oita is in fact a huge steel work. You may want to look it up on Google Maps (yes, Asobo...) - it is really impressive).
- As we continue north we fly over Beppu, a famous Onsen-Town in Japan where many tourists come to relax at the hot springs. The town is literally built on a sleeping volcano, providing hundreds of hot springs which sends fumes over the whole city. No place for nervous people. Leaving Beppu we see another of those famous Asobo-Towers the japanese have never heard off. Ha! They don't even know their own country!
- Leaving Beppu brings our heading towards the island of Shikoku, a very rural and quiet corner of Japan - very well known for its pilgrim trails where you can stay at a temple over night and enjoy the morning rituals at 04:00 by taking a cold bath. If this is your kind of enjoyment that is ;-)
- Following the northern coastline now to our next destination, Matsuyama where we will enjoy a cool Asahi Beer and eat at a Yaki Niku Restaurant (BBQ).
We are not going to cover Shikoku in detail as the landscape is not that much different. Instead, we will go back to the main Island of Honshu where we will discover many astounding locations.
