Stretching 400 miles from the Forum of Ancient Rome to Brindisi on the Adriatic coast, the Appian Way was Europe's first major highway. Although it dates from the late 4th century BC, it is largely intact today. This filght plan follows the path of this ancient, surviving road.Almost all the stops are within sight of the Appian Way. Part 1 begins at Ciampino (LIRA), and has stops at Latina (LIRL), Campo di Volo Amyclae (LIXY), Grazzanise Military Base (LIRM), and ending at Naples Capodiccino (LIRN).
