On Monday, 12 October 2026, the Royal Danish Air Force's Squadron 721 celebrates its 100th anniversary with a special formation flight across Denmark, featuring C-130J Hercules B-537 and Challenger C-215.
Founded on 12 October 1926 as the Royal Danish Navy Air Service's 1st Air Flotilla, Squadron 721 is Denmark's oldest flying squadron and one of the oldest in the world.
Over the past century, the squadron has operated aircraft including the Catalina, Dakota, Skymaster and Gulfstream III. Today, its fleet consists of Hercules, Challenger and T-17 aircraft.
The anniversary flight celebrates a century of service, both at home and abroad, honouring the squadron's motto:
"Ubicumque – Quandocumque"
Anywhere – Anytime.
The two aircraft will depart Aalborg Air Base (EKYT) at 08:40 and fly across Denmark, passing several air bases, towns and landmarks, including Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen and Kronborg Castle in Helsingør, before arriving at Skalstrup Air Base / Roskilde Airport (EKRK) at approximately 10:35.
The flight also serves as a training mission, with low-level flying planned wherever permitted.
🐬 To mark the anniversary, Hercules B-537 carries a special winged-dolphin decoration, a modern interpretation of the squadron's historic emblem.
